Wenger open to more summer signings

Arsene Wenger says he is open to signing more players this transfer window amid strong interest for Monaco duo Thomas Lemar and Kylian Mbappe.

Arsenal have been busier than usual this summer having already completed the signings of Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee and Sead Kolasinac.

The Monaco duo have been heavily linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium, with Lemar looking the more likely of the two to be arriving this summer.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of their pre-season tour, Wenger said he is only interested in bringing ”top-quality” players to the club.

“I am open to get some more signings, but it is not easy to find the players who can strengthen our squad, because we have top-quality players,” Wenger said.

“There are two ways to improve always: analyse what we did well last season and what we did not so well and improve that, and then you can bring new players in.

“But at the moment, because we are in pre-season, it is very important for us to analyse well what happened last season and where we can improve. We have top quality in our squad, and at the moment I focus on that.”

The Frenchman was asked about the signing of Lemar but stated that it’s just speculation at the moment.

“That’s all speculation at the moment, there is nothing really concrete about any signing,” Wenger added.

“He’s a player that we have looked at, but the rest is only speculation.”
