The North London derby has seen its fair share of crazy results. Back in 2005, Arsenal beat their rivals 4-5 at White Hart lane, and of course, there were the back-to-back 5-2 home wins. The ties are often tight and are decided by whoever wants it more on the day.
Spurs were amongst indifferent form going into the game, struggling for goals and were coming off the back of losing to Bayer Leverkusen in midweek. The Gunners had the opportunity to go top of the league with a win – A fantastic incentive, but one that ultimately, they failed to grasp.
Tottenham started the brighter, as Arsenal failed to get to grips with their unorthodox 3-5-2 formation. Son spun Mustafi too easily and crossed for Kane but Monreal intercepted. Eriksen produced a delicious cross, but once again, Kane failed to convert. Arsenal burst into life around the 30-minute mark, when Xhaka fed Walcott who smashed his shot against the post. The Gunners ramped up the pressure and were rewarded when Ozil’s free kick was accidentally turned home by Spurs defender Wimmer.
The second half saw Spurs threaten again. Koscielny fouled Dembele in the box and Harry Kane converted the resulting penalty. After that, it could’ve gone either way. Eriksen saw his free kick ricochet off the post and Olivier Giroud saw his point-blank header fly straight into the arms of Hugo Lloris. In the end, a point seemed fair.
Let’s take a look at the player ratings…
