Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets arrived in London looking to cause an upset against an Arsenal side that was bang in form.
The side that was only founded as recently as 2001 came to the Emirates rock bottom of Group A, only managing to notch a point from their first two games, whereas Arsenal already had four points on the board. The Gunners had also managed a draw in what was perceived to be their toughest fixture in the group against PSG.
It was fair to say Ludogorets were massive underdogs before kick off…
Arsenal looked dangerous from the start and were soon rewarded for their early dominance when Alexis Sanchez provided a moment of genius, chipping the keeper from the edge of the box to give Arsenal the lead in the 12th minute.
Arsenal then dropped their intensity, offered Ludogorets space, and the visitors proceeded to have an excellent 30 mins, looking incredibly dangerous on the counter and testing David Ospina multiple times. That was all quashed, however, when Mesut Ozil picked out Theo Walcott on the edge of the box who then thumped home.
Arsenal picked up where they left off after the break, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain capitalised on a loose ball in the box to make it 3-0.
The Gunners proceeded to batter the Bulgarians as the half wore on. Ozil put two away with his right foot, before striking home his third with his left to make it 6-0, no small thanks to super-sub Lucas Perez who provided two assists.
A comfortable night, so let’s look at the ratings…
