The Champions League returns this Wednesday and Arsenal are set to face the Swiss outfit, Basel. In excellent form, the Gunners are hot favourites for this one and in front of their own crowd they will be looking to put on a show. But Basel themselves have not been shy of a bit of giant-killing, beating both Manchester United and Chelsea in recent Champions League history.
With that being said, Arsenal will feel confident regardless of Basel’s previous successes. The likes of Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have begun to turn on the style in recent weeks and off the back of the majestic win over Chelsea, the trio will be buzzing to get back out on the Emirates grass again this Wednesday.
An interesting sub-story for this tie is just how much Arsene Wenger will rotate his side before their trip to Burnley on Sunday. With an international break on the horizon and a busy fixture list of late, the boss may consider resting a few of the mainstay starting XI. Managing the squad will be the key to any success Arsenal want to have this coming campaign and it is widely expected that Wenger will make use of that squad this Wednesday.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the combined XI and see if any Basel players can make it in!
