Arsenal kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign against PSG in what is certainly their most challenging fixture of the group stage. After a relatively slow start to the new season in the Premier League, the Gunners will be hoping that they can get off the mark quickly against the French Champions who have endured an equally poor start to life this season.
Many Arsenal fans were surprised by the team selection as both Olivier Giroud and Granit Xhaka were only named on the substitute’s bench; the latter is even more confusing as most believed that he was being rested against Southampton deliberately, so as to be in prime fitness for this fixture.
Wenger’s team selection proved to be unsuccessful as within 42 seconds the Gunners had fallen behind to an Edinson Cavani goal.
Thankfully Alexis Sanchez was on hand to equalise for the Gunners in one of the team’s few chances. Clearly there is much to be learnt from the game in Paris, but Arsenal fans should be glad that they were at least able to earn a draw.
