Arsenal arrived in Paris hoping for a better start in the Champions League than their previous campaign. Defeat to Dinamo Zagreb last year set Arsenal on the back-foot for the remainder of the group, and a positive result in arguably the Gunners’ toughest fixture they will face in the first round was vital.
They could not have had a worse start as Edinson Cavani nodded home after just 42 seconds. Too often Arsenal get caught napping in the early stages of matches and this evening was unfortunately no exception. The rest of the first half was damage-control for Wenger’s men as they failed to register a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
But the Gunners improved after the break. Whilst they rode their luck for large portions of the play and were reliant on David Ospina’s fine display, Arsenal managed to force home an equaliser in the 77th minute via the elusive Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean slammed home after Alex Iwobi’s saved effort to set the travelling fans into raptures. A solid point for the North London outfit, but what did we learn upon tonight’s performance?
