Jamie Vardy’s move to Arsenal has hit the proverbial rocks since the beginning of the Euros. Although Arsenal had activated his release clause – worth £20 million – and agreed a contract of £120,000-a-week, the move was not completely finalized as the striker left with the England team.

An initial deadline had been given, but everyday it was not confirmed, the deal seemed less likely to happen. After Arsene Wenger gave an interview this week, claiming that Vardy will stay at Leicester City, it has now been confirmed by the club’s official website, that the striker will indeed sign a new deal with Leicester.
According to reports, Vardy will sign a four-year extension on his current deal, while increasing his wages from £60,000-a-week, to around £100,000-a-week. Vardy’s decision to stay at Leicester will come as a huge blow to Arsenal fans. His pace and prolific goal scoring ability, has been what Arsenal has lacked up front in the last few years.

Arsene Wenger must now look towards other options up front, and could well turn to the likes of Gonzalo Higuain. Arsenal must sign a striker this summer, if they don’t, it could well be another disappointing year for the fans.
