Ex-Gunner Urges Vardy to join Arsenal

Ex Arsenal and Leicester City player, Alan Smith, has urged Leicester striker, Jamie Vardy, to accept Arsenal’s proposed £120,000 per week contract offer and move to the North London club.

Arsenal triggered the £20m release clause in Vardy’s contract last week, according to The Guardian, and have therefore earned the right to speak with Vardy over a move away from the Premier League Champions.

Alan Smith, who moved from Leicester to Arsenal after 200 appearances for the Foxes in his career, told talkSPORT in an interview:

I know Leicester are in the Champions League but Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the country.

Smith, who won two league trophies in his spell at Arsenal, believes that these opportunities do not come around very often:

The chances are that this kind of opportunity won’t come again and you have got to make the very most of your opportunities during the course of your career.

The Telegraph are reporting that Vardy will not consider his future until after the European Championships. The striker, who scored 24 league goals this season, signed a contract in February with the title winners, but his future remains uncertain.

matchday.
