After a disappointing FA Youth Cup loss in the week to Manchester City, Arsenal’s under-21 squad came to the Emirates looking to solidify their hunt for promotion.
The under-21s currently sit third in Division Two of the under-21 league. On Friday night, they faced a Newcastle team sitting near the bottom of the table and mirroring their respective first-team. Although this was a normal under-21 game, both Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky were welcomed back into the squad after long periods out.
In all honesty, this game was slightly easy for Arsenal. Although Newcastle kept the score down in the second-half, in the first they were outplayed.
Daniel Crowley opened the scoring early in the game – the talented midifelder dribbled passed two defenders before slotting home in the corner. Stephy Mavididi made it 2-0 not long after, latching onto a brilliant pass from Tomas Rosicky, to make it 10 goals in the under-21 league so far.
Newcastle got a goal back through an own goal from Krystian Bielik, but Serge Gnabry soon cancelled that out with a powerful left-footed shot.
All things considered, how did the players rate?
