Arsene Wenger has admitted that he does not expect young loanee Serge Gnabry to return from West Brom in the near future.
Speaking during his weekly pre-match news conference ahead of the FA Cup tie against Sunderland on Saturday, Wenger admitted that did not believe Gnabry’s loan deal at West Brom would be cut short.
He’s on loan at West Brom, a year-long loan.
We have a commitment. The player wanted to go there. We have a commitment with West Brom. If they want to cancel the loan, they have to contact us and speak about it. But at the moment, we are not there.
Since making the move to the Midlands in the summer, young Germany starlet Gnabry has struggled to assert himself in the first team amid a plethora of injuries and has so far only managed to make three senior appearances for Tony Pulis’ side.

However, with speculation beginning to mount regarding the winger’s future as reports claimed he would be recalled in order to be sent out on loan elsewhere, both managers have attempted to move away from talks surrounding a cancellation of the loan.
Earlier this week, Pulis also commented on the situation.
Serge has been brilliant. He’s not played as many games as he would have wanted to play. But he’s been good to have around the place. He was very unfortunate because he came here injured and I think people forget that.
Once he was fit, fitting him into that team and what we were trying to do was difficult and then he picked up another injury so he’s had a bit of a topsy turvy start. For the kid, if you speak to him, he wants to play week in week out.
