Arsenal frontman Olivier Giroud believes that Sunday’s 2-0 win over struggling Aston Villa shows that they are contenders for the Premier League title.
The Frenchman scored a penalty early in the first half to give the Gunners the lead as they returned to the top of the table. Giroud also hit a hat-trick in midweek as the north London club defied the odds to qualify for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking after the win, the former Montpellier striker applauded his teammates for their performances in both of the matches but made it clear that he does not want their progress to stop there.

It is a fantastic week. We did a great job in the Champions League and we really wanted to finish the week with a win and to be top of league before Leicester’s game against Chelsea. It is nice and hopefully we can have a great game against Manchester City on Monday.
Giroud also recognised the creativity of his side in the match against Aston Villa.
I’m very pleased with the performance today and we are in a great position and even if everything was not perfect, we had a lot of chances today which is good for me and the team.
Arsene Wenger’s side face a tough festive period with matches against title contenders Manchester City and a trip to St. Marys to face Ronald Koeman’s Southampton.
