Arsenal took advantage of Saturday’s early kick off which saw Stoke City beat title contenders Manchester City by two goals to nil, as the Gunners beat Sunderland 3-1, to take over both City and Manchester United, who drew at home to West Ham.

Joel Campbell broke the deadlock after half an hour with a neat finish beyond Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, before the visitors equalised through an Olivier Giroud own goal on the brink of half-time.
The Frenchman however, made up for his earlier mistake with a goal just after the hour mark, making it 2-1, and with a tense finish at the Emirates Stadium, Aaron Ramsey settled the nerves by making it 3-1 in the final stages of the game.
