Team News: Arsenal vs. Sunderland

Arsène Wenger has revealed that Kieran Gibbs should be available for Saturday’s match against relegation candidates Sunderland. Speaking with the media in preparation for the game, the Gunners boss revealed Theo Walcott and Laurent Koscielny may be available, but will face fitness tests before the game.

Wenger also noted that, as expected, Alexis Sanchez, Mikel Arteta, and Santi Cazorla were out for the weekend.

We will make a decision on Saturday on Koscielny and Walcott, they could both make the squad. Gibbs is available again for the weekend.

At the moment on Alexis, Santi and Mikel, we don’t know how long they will be out for.

According to reports in the Guardian, Cazorla could be out for anywhere between 3-4 months, and Alexis could be out for up to a month.

Walcott injured his calf shortly after coming on as an injury replacement for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in late October.

Cazorla (knee), Alexis (quad), and Koscielny (hip) were all injured during the Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Norwich City last weekend.

With Cazorla and Alexis expected to miss significant time, they join a litany of Arsenal players currently setting up residences in the trainer’s room, including Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin, Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky, and Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal look to get back to winning ways as they host Sunderland this weekend.
