Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hailed the ‘excellent’ Alexis Sanchez for his strong and convincing contribution to the side since joining in the summer of 2014.
Having started slowly in the new campaign because of Chile’s success in the Copa America meaning that the 26-year-old was forced to start the season later than his teammates, Alexis has now come on leaps and bounds – and Wenger believes that he is now performing better than he did in his first season at the club.

He has a bit of a difficult start because he came back late [from the Copa America] and you could see that but now he is back to his level and even better than before.
His overall game and finishing, contributing and assists is excellent. He works hard for the team and he finishes. His enthusiasm is contagious.
He always gives you hope that he is going to do something and he always gets defenders on the back foot, provokes and that is top class.
Alexis has scored nine goals in his last five for both club and country, which includes an impressive hat-trick at the King Power Stadium against unbeaten at the time Leicester City and a quick-fire brace against Manchester United in Arsenal’s impressive 3-0 win over Manchester United.

The Gunners come up against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon as the Premier League returns after its break for international football.
