According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren is interested in taking Arsenal forward Joel Campbell to St James’ Park.
Campbell, who scored the only goal of the game as Costa Rica defeated the United States on Tuesday evening, has yet to feature in the Premier League this season for Arsenal, but started in the side’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup, where Mathieu Flamini famously scored a brace.
With the likes of Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott all likely to start ahead of him, it appears that opportunities will be limited.

Newcastle have had a terrible start to the season, and sit bottom of the league with just three points, having failed to win a game.
Scoring goals has been a major problem for the Magpies. They’ve only managed to find the back of the net six times, which is the joint-fewest amount in the league, along with Watford and West Brom, making it no surprise that they are being linked with forwards, and a move for Campbell would seem to make sense for all parties.
