19-year-old Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners.
Iwobi, whose uncle is former Bolton player Jay-Jay Okocha, is seen as one of the most promising talents from Arsenal’s academy. He is a regular in the U21 side and after scoring nine in nine appearances last season, he has continued his goalscoring run this campaign so far, netting twice in 5 appearances.

Despite having no competitive appearances for the Gunners yet, Iwobi represented Arsenal in pre-season, where he was part of Arsene Wenger’s squad who travelled to Singapore for the Barclays Asia Trophy. The forward impressed in his senior debut against Singapore Select, and was again featured in pre-season at the Emirates Cup where he bagged his first senior goal for the Gunners in a 6-0 win against Lyon.

The youngster expressed his delight at signing a new deal with Arsenal.
I’m delighted to have signed a new contract, especially with a club like Arsenal who are so big, I’m happy to sign for them.
I like to think I have earned it. I have gone through a lot with Arsenal so to have a new and improved contract is very good and I’m happy to have earned it.

The Arsenal youngster then continued, stating it has taken a lot for him to get to this stage of his career.
I have had ups and downs. As I was growing up I had a lot of downs but as I get older things just keep getting better and better.
The ultimate goal is to break into the first team and play as many games as I can.
