Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem has agreed a deal to join Scottish Championship side Rangers on a season-long loan, according to Raman Bhardwaj of STV Sport.
The 18-year-old has made two appearances for the FA Cup holders, but is yet to consistently hold a regular place in Arsene Wenger’s match-day squad because of the presence of high-calibre central midfield players, such as Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta, who has just returned from a string of injuries.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton revealed last week, after the loan signings of Tottenham duo Nathan Oduwa and Dominic Ball, that another player would arrive at Ibrox in the near future.
STV Sport’s Raman Bhardwaj understands that the United States U20 international is that man and the clubs are expected to hold talks in the next 24 hours.
Earlier this summer, Zelalem stated that he would ‘try to get into the first-team and play some games’. However, he later mentioned that if he found himself struggling for first-team minutes, he would ‘look to get out on loan somewhere’.
The move will give Zelalem the chance to develop through regular time on the pitch as he bids to help Rangers return the top flight of Scottish football for the first time after a four-year absences in his first loan move away from the Emirates since joining in the early 2013.
