Which Arsenal youngsters will be next to step up?

The recent fixture against a Singapore Select XI rather whetted the appetite with regards to the potential impact that Arsenal’s youngsters could have on the first-team picture this season.

Chuba Akpom scored a hat-trick, whilst Alex Iwobi, Dan Crowley, Gedion Zelalem, Chris Willock and Jon Toral all played a part in the 4-0 victory.

With Arsenal now able to afford to buy high-profile players with more regularity than was the case in the past, youngsters at the club could be forgiven for thinking that they face a considerably difficult, and, in some cases, impossible task to make the grade at Emirates Stadium.

However, in addition to those listed above, there are several other young talents who will be hoping to prove to Arsene Wenger in the near future that they are capable of making the step up.

One player who certainly falls into that category is Julio Pleguezuelo. The stylish Spanish centre-back has been an Arsenal player for two years since his switch from Barcelona and, despite missing much of last season through injury, he remains an exciting prospect for the future.

Short in stature, but extremely comfortable in possession, Pleguezuelo will be hoping to feature in the Capital One Cup this season.

Another player to keep an eye on is striker Stephy Mavididi, who looks set to step up to Arsenal’s U21 side on a permanent basis this season after he enjoyed an excellent 2014/15 campaign. The powerful England U17 international was a regular on the scoresheet for Arsenal’s U18 team last season and also possesses impressive technique.

The list of potential talents doesn’t end there, with Tyrell Robinson another player who is set to make big strides this campaign. The 17-year-old, who signed his first professional contract last season, is capable of playing as a left-winger or at left-back and combines searing speed with excellent crosses.

Kaylen Hinds, meanwhile, was another player who was left frustrated by injuries last season, but the striker, who can also operate out wide if required, is now fully fit and has enjoyed an impressive pre-season so far.
