With the European Championships in France just a single footballing season away, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey has set his aspirations for Wales in the qualifying stages as well as the finals.
Ramsey has expressed his beliefs about how far Wales can go and feels that it would be a great achievement to qualify for their first ever European Championship. They currently sit in pole position in Group B, three points above Belgium with just four games left to play. The Arsenal midfielder scored one and created one in Wales’ latest victory over Israel and confesses that it would be an honour to represent his country on the European stage next summer.
Ramsey said: “There’s still a few games left that we need to win but we have a great group at the moment who are very hard to break down and have a good team”.
Wales have recently been included in the top 10 national teams in terms of the FIFA world rankings and Ramsey discussed his appreciation of the achievement.
“We’re just really proud that we’re now 10th in the world. There’s still a few games left that we need to win to secure our qualification but we have a great group at the moment who are very hard to break down and have a good team spirit. We’re looking forward to our next games and to qualify for France.”
Despite Wales’ success, Ramsey has admitted his focus has turned to the Barclays Asia Trophy final against Everton this Saturday: “It’s been a good surprise and the support that we’ve had over here has been quite overwhelming. We’ve just been working hard and looking forward to playing against Everton on Saturday”.
With the conditions being different to those in Europe and to what the Arsenal players are used to, Aaron states that “It’s a bit tough” in the hot and humid conditions.
Looking forward to the new season, Ramsey ends “We’re only going to get stronger now as the pre-season goes on and I’m sure we’ll be ready for the beginning of the season”.
Ramsey has his eyes set on even more success during the 2015/16 campaign, adding to the back-to-back FA Cup triumphs.
