After his loan move to Dutch side Ajax was confirmed earlier today, Arsene Wenger has discussed Yaya Sanogo and his opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League.
After struggling since joining the Gunners in 2013, Yaya Sanogo was loaned out to Crystal Palace, where he also failed to impress, but has been given yet another opportunity by Wenger to turn his fortunes around.
Sanogo has had an injury struck career to date, but is only 22-years-old and still has a number a years ahead to turn his career around.
Wenger said: “He came to us injured and it took us a while to get him to the top level. He’s ready to play now and I’m sure he can be a good signing for Ajax.
“He has an opportunity to play in the Champions League with Ajax, which is good experience. We have a good relationship with them and hopefully he can have a great season.”
The former Auxerre man has bags of potential, and has represented his country at under-16, under-17, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level, but is yet to earn a call up to the senior side. Sanogo, like many French players, will be hoping for an opportunity to impress ahead of the European Championships this summer, which are being held in France.
