The last time the title was won by a North London Club was 2004. In recent years, Arsenal have been working harder and harder and always finishing only several points off the champions. It’s evident that the team as a whole has gotten better, less injuries, more transfers, top 3 finishes, but former Arsenal striker, Lukas Podolski, believes this year could be their year.
The start to Podolski’s Emirates career was solid, but it didn’t take too long for him to lose his place in the starting line-up, it didn’t affect his attitude toward Arsenal though. The German tips Arsenal to challenge for the title and possibly bring the trophy back to the Emirates to end a wait of more than 12 years.
His three-year stay at the Emirates ended this weekend after he signed a deal with Turkish powerhouses Galatasaray on a three-year-deal.
Podolski told Sport Bild: “After good and open talks with Arsene Wenger I came to the conclusion that a change was the right decision.”
The move to Galatasaray means that 30year-old Podolski will join the likes of Dutch international Wesley Sneijder and Uruguayan Fernando Muslera.
According to FourFourTwo, Podolski went on to praise the fans and his experiences at Arsenal:
“Over the last three years I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing people at Arsenal,” Podolski posted on Twitter.
“I want to thank everyone from all the staff behind the scenes to the manager & my team mates, who have all helped make London a second home to me.
“To the fans… The Best fans in England, who have supported myself and the team no matter what, you will forever hold a special place in my heart and I will forever be a Gunner!
“I am confident that next season the team will be challenging for that league title and I will be watching on as a fan! COYG.”
