According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, young right-back Carl Jenkinson could be set for a pay rise as Arsenal look to offer the 23-year old a new deal. Jenkinson had a very successful loan spell at West Ham last season, and it seems that his performances have done enough to persuade manager Arsene Wenger that he deserves a new and improved contract.
Jenkinson is expected to go out on loan again for the coming season, however, with Mathieu Debuchy and Hector Bellerin fighting it out for the right-back spot in the first-team. Sunderland, Southampton and West Ham are all interested, but none have yet made an official offer.
The right-back still has three years on his current deal, from which he earns £35,000-a-week. It is not known how much his improved contract will see him earn on a weekly basis.
England international Jenkinson was thrown straight into the deep end when he joined Arsenal from Charlton in 2011, making his Premier League debut against Liverpool. This was followed by an all-round poor performance, as he managed an assist and a red card as Manchester United humiliated the Gunners.
He has progressed very well since his early days, and, having already played 61 times for the Gunners, another good season away from the club might see him finally settle in a permanent right-back role in the near future.
