A recent issue with the Gunners has been injuries; many players in the club’s history have failed to feature for a whole season without injuries, but Arsene Wenger is to rectify the issue by hiring new staff to benefit the players.
Following Germany’s World Cup victory of 2014, Wenger brought one of the Germans in to the squad. He wasn’t a player, but Head of Performance Enhancement, Shad Forsythe. At the beginning of last season, Arsenal struggled to reach peak performance, but as the season progressed, teams were tired out, and the experience of Forsythe was able to maintain players returning to full fitness, even after January.
The club has continued in this vein and have reportedly made a new addition to the club, a Strength and Conditioning coach, Barry Solan. Not too long ago, they were advertising the role, and according to Midwest Radio, Solan was the one to get the job.
Solan has worked with the Polish national team for almost four years and is a Sports Science lecturer. Like Forsythe, Solan works for EXOS – an American company that attempts to get the very best performance levels out of athletes.
The new addition isn’t the only man to join the club this summer, with Huddersfield Town physio James Haycock having already joined the Gunners this summer.
The way injuries occur is often perceived as good luck or bad luck, but in reality it depends on how the players train and take care of their bodies. Almost all injuries come from muscle and ligament issues, with wear and tear another popular form of injury, meaning that investing in physios and staff is vital for the health and fitness of the players at the club.
