According to various reports, Arsenal are set to double Jack Wilshere’s wages, with the hope that the 23-year-old will be tempted into a new, long term contract.
Wilshere has been subject to interest from Manchester City recently, who will reportedly table a bid of £30m if they fail to lure Paul Pogba, formerly of Manchester United, to the Etihad Stadium.
With competition for places in the Arsenal midfield, Manuel Pellegrini believes that Wilshere may be tempted to leave North London in search of first team football, but it is unlikely that the England international, who has three years remaining on his current deal, will leave Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of Wilshere, who has had his progress halted on numerous occasions by injuries and is believed to be interested in offering the midfielder a contract of £100,00 a week, double his current weekly wage of £50,000.
Last week, Wilshere was surprisingly fined £40,000 for his anti-Spurs chants during Arsenal’s FA Cup victory parade.
