According to reports in the Mirror, Premier League runners up Manchester City are preparing a bid believed to be in the region of £30m for Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere.
The news comes after the club’s £40m bid for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling was thrown back at them.
Wilshere, who was fined £40,000 for an incident related to taunting Tottenham Hotspur, has been subject to interest from the Citizens for some time and it now appears that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are firming up their interest in the England international.
It is likely that Arsene Wenger will reject the bid if it is made, with the Frenchman claiming in April: “We are not in a position any more where we have to sell our best players.”
For many years, Arsenal have had to sell the club’s stars to raise finances in order to pay off the Emirates Stadium and ensure Premier League stability, but with Wenger saying the club do not need to sell its best players, Arsenal supporters can rest assured that Wilshere will be at the club next season.
