Abou Diaby and Ryo Miyaichi have been released by Arsenal.
Frenchman Diaby joined the Gunners from Auxerre in 2006 and went on to make over 100 appearances; an energetic midfielder with a love to attack and defend, Diaby’s Arsenal career was halted on numerous occasions by torrid injury issues.
At 29 years-old, the French international still has the potential to offer much more in his career, but with him requiring a place in a thin 25-man Premier League squad, manager Arsene Wenger simply could not afford the risk after so many years without consistent playing time.
Meanwhile, Japanese international Miyaichi was signed as a promising teenager boasting an abundance of pace to rival that of Theo Walcott’s, however his Arsenal career couldn’t quite take off and he spent short periods on loan at Feyenoord, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, FC Twente and FC Twente’s reserve team, before being released by the Gunners.
Other players that have been released at the end of their contracts include Adesewo Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, Jack Jebb, Austin Lipman, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill and Josh Vickers.
