Arsenal’s own honours archive records 14 FA Cups, two League Cups, 16 outright Community Shields plus one shared Shield, one European Cup Winners’ Cup and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Its older league-title count predates the 2025/26 championship, which Arsenal subsequently confirmed as title number 14.

## How many league titles have Arsenal won?

Arsenal have been champions of England **14 times**.

The titles came in:

- **1930/31**
- **1932/33**
- **1933/34**
- **1934/35**
- **1937/38**
- **1947/48**
- **1952/53**
- **1970/71**

- **1990/91**
- **1997/98**
- **2001/02**
- **2003/04**
- **2025/26**

The latest success ended a 22-year wait.

Arteta’s side finished **seven points ahead of Manchester City** in 2025/26, becoming Arsenal’s fourth champions of the Premier League era after the teams of 1997/98, 2001/02 and 2003/04.

## Arsenal’s first period of league dominance

Arsenal’s first sustained period of success came under Herbert Chapman and then George Allison.

The club won its first league championship in **1930/31**, before adding three consecutive titles between 1932/33 and 1934/35.

Another followed in 1937/38.

UEFA’s historical profile of Arsenal highlights Chapman’s arrival in 1925 as the beginning of the club’s first great era, combining tactical innovation with unprecedented domestic success.

That period established Arsenal among the major powers of English football long before the Premier League existed.

## The 1971 Double

Arsenal’s **1970/71** season produced one of the most important achievements in club history.

Bertie Mee’s team won both:

- the First Division
- the FA Cup

The league title was secured with a famous **1-0 victory away to Tottenham**, before Arsenal defeated Liverpool in the FA Cup final.

It was Arsenal’s first league-and-cup Double.

That season remains one of the landmark campaigns covered by our permanent **North London derby guide**, because the championship was secured at White Hart Lane.

## The dramatic 1989 title

Arsenal’s 1988/89 league championship produced one of English football’s most famous finishes.

George Graham’s side travelled to Liverpool for the final game needing to win by two goals to take the title.

Michael Thomas scored in stoppage time to make it **2-0**, giving Arsenal the championship on goals scored.

Arsenal were champions again in **1990/91**, losing only one league match throughout the entire season.

Those titles formed part of Graham’s successful reign, which also delivered domestic and European cup success.

## Arsène Wenger’s three league titles

Arsène Wenger won three league championships as Arsenal manager:

### 1997/98

Arsenal recovered from a difficult position during the season to overtake Manchester United and win the Premier League.

They also lifted the FA Cup, completing the Double.

### 2001/02

Wenger’s side won another league and FA Cup Double.

Arsenal finished the league season with **13 consecutive victories** and scored in every Premier League match.

### 2003/04

The most famous of all.

Arsenal won the Premier League without losing a single game.

The team finished with:

- **26 wins**
- **12 draws**
- **0 defeats**
- **90 points**

The unbeaten sequence eventually extended to **49 consecutive league games** across three seasons.

Our \[Arsenal Invincibles guide\] should be the main internal destination for the complete story of that team.

## Arsenal’s 2025/26 Premier League title

The drought finally ended under Arteta.

Arsenal were crowned **2025/26 Premier League champions with a game to spare**, securing the club’s 14th English title.

The championship followed three consecutive second-place finishes.

Arsenal’s official season review notes that Arteta’s side finished seven points ahead of Manchester City and recorded 26 league victories.

It also meant Arteta became the first Arsenal manager since Wenger to win the league.

## How many FA Cups have Arsenal won?

Arsenal have won the **FA Cup 14 times**, more than any other club.

Their victories came in:

| Season | Final |
| --- | --- |
| 1929/30 | Arsenal 2-0 Huddersfield Town |
| 1935/36 | Arsenal 1-0 Sheffield United |
| 1949/50 | Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool |
| 1970/71 | Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool |
| 1978/79 | Arsenal 3-2 Manchester United |
| 1992/93 | Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday |
| 1997/98 | Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle United |
| 2001/02 | Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea |
| 2002/03 | Arsenal 1-0 Southampton |
| 2004/05 | Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United, won on penalties |
| 2013/14 | Arsenal 3-2 Hull City |
| 2014/15 | Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa |
| 2016/17 | Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea |
| 2019/20 | Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea |

Arsenal’s official history lists the club’s **14 FA Cup victories**, which remains the competition record.

The trophy has played a particularly important role in Arsenal’s modern history.

The 2014 victory over Hull ended a nine-year major-trophy drought, while Arteta’s first major honour as Arsenal manager came in the 2020 final against Chelsea.

## How many League Cups have Arsenal won?

Arsenal have won the League Cup **twice**.

The victories came in:

**1986/87**\
Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1 in the final.

**1992/93**\
Arsenal defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.

The second formed part of a unique domestic cup Double, with Arsenal beating Wednesday again in that season’s FA Cup final.

Arsenal’s official honours page lists two League Cup successes.

## What European trophies have Arsenal won?

Arsenal’s men’s team have won **two major European trophies**.

### Inter-Cities Fairs Cup – 1970

Arsenal won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup after defeating Anderlecht over two legs.

The Gunners lost the first leg **3-1 in Belgium** before producing a 3-0 comeback at Highbury to win 4-3 on aggregate.

It was Arsenal’s first European trophy.

### European Cup Winners’ Cup – 1994

George Graham’s Arsenal defeated Parma **1-0** in Copenhagen.

Alan Smith scored the winning goal.

The trophy remains Arsenal’s most recent European honour in men’s football. UEFA lists the Cup Winners’ Cup victory among Arsenal’s continental honours.

## Have Arsenal ever won the Champions League?

**No. Arsenal’s men’s team have not yet won the European Cup or Champions League.**

They have reached the final twice.

### 2006 Champions League final

Arsenal faced Barcelona in Paris.

Jens Lehmann was sent off early, but Sol Campbell put Arsenal ahead before Barcelona recovered to win 2-1.

### 2026 Champions League final

Twenty years later, Arsenal returned to the final.

Arteta’s Premier League champions faced Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest and took an early lead through Kai Havertz.

PSG equalised before eventually winning the trophy **4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw**.

That means Arsenal have now been Champions League runners-up in:

- **2005/06**
- **2025/26**

Our permanent [**Arsenal Champions League fixtures guide**](https://readarsenal.com/arsenal-champions-league-fixtures/) should handle current European competition coverage, while this page remains focused on historical honours.

## Arsenal’s other major European finals

Arsenal have also suffered several other European final defeats.

### Cup Winners’ Cup

Arsenal were runners-up in:

- **1980**
- **1995**

either side of their 1994 victory.

### UEFA Cup

Arsenal reached the **2000 UEFA Cup final** against Galatasaray.

The game finished 0-0 before Galatasaray won on penalties.

UEFA’s historical profile records Arsenal as Cup Winners’ Cup champions in 1994 and UEFA Cup runners-up in 2000.

## How many Community Shields have Arsenal won?

Arsenal have won **16 Community Shields outright**, plus one shared Shield.

The shared honour came in **1991**, when Arsenal and Tottenham drew 0-0.

Arsenal’s outright wins include successes in:

1930, 1931, 1933, 1934, 1938, 1948, 1953, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2023.

Arsenal’s official honours archive records the total as **16 + one shared**.

Community Shields are normally treated separately when calculating Arsenal’s **32 major trophies**, which is why different online trophy totals can sometimes appear.

## Arsenal’s three league and FA Cup Doubles

Arsenal have completed the traditional league and FA Cup Double **three times**.

### 1970/71

Manager: **Bertie Mee**

### 1997/98

Manager: **Arsène Wenger**

### 2001/02

Manager: **Arsène Wenger**

That puts Wenger behind two of the club’s three Double-winning campaigns.

The 2003/04 Invincibles did not complete a Double, but their undefeated league record gives that side a separate historical distinction.

## Arsenal trophies by manager

| Manager | Major highlights |
| --- | --- |
| **Herbert Chapman** | First FA Cup and first league titles |
| **George Allison** | Multiple league championships and FA Cup |
| **Tom Whittaker** | Two league titles and FA Cup |
| **Bertie Mee** | 1970 Fairs Cup and 1971 Double |
| **George Graham** | Two league titles, two League Cups, FA Cup, Cup Winners’ Cup |
| **Arsène Wenger** | Three league titles and seven FA Cups |
| **Mikel Arteta** | 2020 FA Cup and 2025/26 Premier League |

Wenger is Arsenal’s most decorated manager in terms of major trophies during the modern era.

Arteta has now joined the relatively small group of Arsenal managers to have won both the FA Cup and English league championship.

## What is Arsenal’s greatest trophy-winning team?

There is no objective answer, but several sides dominate the debate.

### 1930s Arsenal

The club’s first dynasty and one of the dominant forces in pre-war English football.

### 1970/71 Double winners

The first Arsenal team to win league and FA Cup in the same season.

### 1988/89 champions

Forever associated with Michael Thomas’ title-winning goal at Anfield.

### 1997/98 Double winners

Wenger’s first championship team.

### 2001/02 Double winners

One of Wenger’s most complete attacking sides.

### 2003/04 Invincibles

The only team in the 38-game Premier League era to complete an entire league campaign unbeaten.

### 2025/26 champions

The side that ended Arsenal’s 22-year league-title drought and returned the club to the top of English football.

That final team should now be included in any serious modern Arsenal honours discussion.

## Why Arsenal trophy totals can differ

Readers will sometimes see different totals quoted.

The main reason is **which competitions are included**.

Arsenal’s current official definition describes the 2025/26 league championship as the club’s **32nd major trophy**.

That total consists of:

- 14 league championships
- 14 FA Cups
- two League Cups
- one European Cup Winners’ Cup
- one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup

Community Shields are listed separately.

Some third-party trophy counts include Shields, while others exclude certain historical competitions.

For Read Arsenal, **32 major men’s trophies** should be our standard headline figure unless Arsenal’s official definition changes.
