# Slavia Prague 1-2 Arsenal: Madueke and Gyokeres fire Gunners to Champions League victory

Arsenal moved up to third in the Champions League table after beating Slavia Prague 2-1 at the Fortuna Arena.

Noni Madueke opened the scoring after nine minutes, finishing calmly after Viktor Gyokeres sent him through on goal.

The Swedish striker then doubled Arsenal’s advantage with an excellent finish in the 38th minute. However, a much stronger second-half performance from Slavia made for an uncomfortable finish.

Wiktor Nowak scored a late goal to put pressure on the Gunners. They held on to take all three points.

## **Madueke and Gyokeres put Arsenal in control**

Mikel Arteta made six changes from the Liverpool win on Sunday. William Saliba returns to the squad after his back injury.

The defender was left on the bench, with Ezri Konsa playing alongside Gabriel Magalhães in central defence.

Arsenal started brightly and took control of the game when they won the long ball forward. Gyokeres beat his man and found Madueke with a clever through ball.

The winger used his pace to get into the penalty area before sliding his finish through goalkeeper Nazar Domchak’s legs.

Arsenal continued to create chances, with Mikel Merino going close on several occasions. Domchak also produced an important save to deny the midfielder from close range.

Merino eventually helped Arsenal extend their lead. After winning possession in the Slavia half, Declan Rice found Gyokeres, who exchanged passes with the Spaniard before curling a superb finish into the far corner.

The visitors could have added a third before the break. Gabriel’s header from a corner was cleared off the line.

## **Slavia put Arsenal under pressure**

Arsenal appeared to be in control at half-time.

But Slavia upped the tempo and started to create more space, forcing Arsenal into a defensive stance. Early on, Oskar Kubiak fired a long-range shot, forcing David Raya to push it away.

Arteta got increasingly frustrated as Arsenal struggled to hold on to the ball and dominate the midfield.

They tried to keep pressing, but Arsenal struggled to create much at the other end. Madueke did get into a good position to shoot from an angle but didn’t have enough power to cause any problems for Domchak.

Slavia were denied a goal when Gabriel headed the ball away from the goal line. Raya made a brilliant stop to keep the shot out while the penalty area was crowded.

The Arsenal keeper made another stunning save as Kubiak powered a header from a cross. Raya deflected the ball onto the post to keep his team ahead by two goals.

## **Arsenal survive late scare**

Slavia scored their breakthrough goal in the 90th minute after David Jurasek played a low cross from the left. Nowak was able to run into the box to score past Raya.

It created a nervy few minutes of added time as Arsenal had to defend their lead.

Slavia could find no way back into the game as Stepan Chaloupek headed wide and Mikulas Konecny threatened in the dying moments, but his effort lacked confidence as Raya made light work of saving.

Arsenal secured their third win in their last four Champions League games to move to 10 points and into third place in the group stage.

The Gunners have now gone unbeaten in their last ten Champions League away games to set a new club record.

However, Arteta will be looking for a much better display from his side when they resume action in the Premier League against Hull City on Saturday.
