# Bayern Munich handed Arsenal an injury boost as Vincent Kompany faces Champions League fitness concerns

Bayern Munich may have to face Arsenal in the Champions League without a number of key players, including head coach Vincent Kompany, Joshua Kimmich and Manuel Neuer.

The Bundesliga giants trained without their manager and Kimmich on Tuesday, with doubts surrounding their participation in Wednesday’s clash at the Allianz Arena.

Kompany is still recovering from a viral infection and has been told to rest. The Belgium international missed training. He will not be at the pre-match press conference, meaning assistant coach Aaron Danks and former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry took over from the suspended manager.

However, Bayern are not ruling out the possibility of Kompany returning to control the game on Wednesday. The club is monitoring the player’s condition before making a final decision.

## **Kimmich and Neuer’s fitness concerns**

Kimmich’s absence from the final training session had caused initial concern over Bayern’s midfield options. The club cited personal reasons for his absence rather than a recurrence of the injury. This left his availability for the Arsenal clash in doubt.

The Germany international’s potential absence would be a concern for Bayern given his importance to their midfield. However, there remains hope that he will be available for the match.

Goalkeeper Neuer is also hoping to return after missing Bayern’s last two games with a foot problem.

The veteran has been training ahead of the Arsenal match and offered encouragement to the German side. They will check his fitness to see if he is ready to feature.

Kompany’s absence from the touchline would be another setback for the hosts. Danks and the rest of the coaching staff are ready to step up if needed.

## **Musiala and Olise are unavailable.**

Bayern will definitely be without Jamal Musiala, who remains sidelined with an injury. The attacking midfielder has not recovered in time to face Arsenal, depriving the hosts of another option in the final third.

Michael Olise is also unavailable, but for disciplinary rather than medical reasons. The winger is suspended following his red card against Viking in the previous round of Champions League fixtures.

Olise has been training with his teammates on Tuesday. His suspension means he cannot make an appearance in the game against the Gunners.

Bayern will have to make adjustments to their attacking options for a game that could turn out to be crucial to their campaign.

## **Arsenal also have injury concerns**

Arsenal continue their preparations for the game against Bayern Munich with their own selection problems. However, the Gunners have plenty of players to choose from.

William Saliba is still out with a back injury, while Christos Tzolis is sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Piero Hincapie was back in light training at Sobha on Tuesday morning after an ankle injury. Despite this, the defender looks unlikely to be fit for Wednesday’s match.

The Gunners will be looking to take advantage of any uncertainty in the Bayern camp as they seek to continue their Champions League campaign.

Arsenal won 3-1 when the sides met at the Emirates Stadium last season. Jurrien Timber, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli all scored.

Bayern, meanwhile, will be determined to respond after that defeat and make the most of home advantage.

With decisions still to be made over Kompany, Kimmich and Neuer, the hosts face an anxious wait before the teams meet at the Allianz Arena.
