# Romano: Alvarez to overhaul his camp as Arsenal January talk builds

Julian Alvarez is preparing to shake up the people guiding his career after a frustrating summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The transfer expert has also urged caution over reports that the Atletico Madrid forward is ready to join Arsenal in January.

## **Alvarez eyes a fresh start after summer frustration**

The international Argentine soccer player tried to transfer to Barcelona throughout the summer transfer window. He was unable to do so since Atletico wouldn’t let him go to the other team of La Liga. According to reports, Arsenal was the only choice left for Alvarez as a possible transfer option until the last minute of the transfer window.

Since then speculation over whether or not the player will move has only intensified. According to TEAMtalk, Alvarez is “seriously considering” moving to Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are preparing a fresh approach during the new year.

TransferNewsLive, which cited reports from Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, even stated that the player ‘now wants to join’ the Gunners. Other reports suggest the player may be intending on replacing his current representative after their unsuccessful attempt at landing him this summer.

Romano, talking on his YouTube channel, confirmed part of the story. He revealed that Alvarez is working on a change within those close to him in order to ‘change the strategy’ and change who takes care of his future. In January, however, he was much more measured. According to Romano, the message from the player’s side, from the club and from all the other parties is the same. Leave Julian alone and let him play football.

## **Arsenal is short of attacking options**

Arsenal made a marquee attacker one of their biggest priorities in the summer. Alvarez was only one name on an ambitious shortlist. Morgan Rogers, who eventually joined Chelsea, and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior were also targeted, but Arsenal were left disappointed. Christos Tzolis arrived to replace Leandro Trossard, who moved to Besiktas. With Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli also gone, Mikel Arteta’s side could be a little short of options in attack.

## **Rice and Arteta deals boost Arsenal**

Outside of the Alvarez storyline, Romano has great news for fans of Arsenal on the front of contracts. Declan Rice is almost finished with the talks about a new contract, and Romano said that it was “absolutely confirmed”.

Rice has taken the decision to stay at the club and will be signing soon. Only minor details are still left to take care of. Romano said that paying Rice according to his name among the greatest midfield players was always important for Arsenal.

Arteta’s new contract is already done. Romano said the club’s directors and owners chose to back the Spaniard when results dipped in March and early April, following a fantastic first half of the season. An agreement was reached in recent weeks, including for his backroom staff.

For now, Arsenal have secured their manager and are close to doing the same with their midfield star. Whether they can land a new striker is a question likely to hang over the club until the January window opens.
