Arsenal have contacted Yan Diomande’s representatives, but Paris Saint-Germain are already leading the race for the RB Leipzig winger.
Fabrizio Romano says the Gunners made checks with the player’s camp during recent days. Arsenal wanted to discover whether there was still an opportunity to enter negotiations.
However, Football365 reports that Diomande has agreed personal terms with PSG. The French champions are now working to reach an agreement with Leipzig.
Arsenal’s approach appears to have been an enquiry rather than a formal transfer offer. Romano said club officials made calls to understand the situation before deciding whether to pursue the Ivory Coast international.
The update arrives after Arsenal missed out on Morgan Rogers to Chelsea. The Blues agreed a £117m deal with Aston Villa after Rogers chose Stamford Bridge over the Emirates Stadium.
Romano says Arsenal valued Rogers between £90m and £100m. They were not prepared to match the record-breaking package accepted by Villa.
Arsenal must decide next winger move
Diomande would provide the speed and one-against-one threat Mikel Arteta wants on the left side of his attack.
However, PSG’s progress leaves Arsenal needing either a significant change in the negotiations or another target. Attempting to disrupt an advanced agreement could also drive up the overall cost.
The Gunners have already strengthened their wide options with Christos Tzolis, but Rogers was viewed as a separate marquee addition capable of operating centrally or from the left.
Bradley Barcola and Julian Alvarez have also featured prominently in reports surrounding Arsenal’s attacking search.
The contact for Diomande suggests Andrea Berta is examining several routes following the Rogers decision. Arsenal must now establish which elite-level options remain genuinely available before entering another expensive transfer contest.
PSG currently appear to have the advantage for Diomande, leaving Arsenal’s calls without an immediate breakthrough.
