Arsenal Face Major Transfer Test As Ayyoub Bouaddi Price Rises

Ayyoub Bouaddi’s World Cup form has turned an already difficult Arsenal transfer idea into a major test for Andrea Berta.

The Mirror reports that Lille president Olivier Letang has warned interested clubs over Bouaddi’s rising value, with the midfielder now being discussed in a price range that could move beyond £100m.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been credited with interest. Bouaddi’s price had already started climbing before Morocco’s World Cup run, with The Mirror reporting in June that Lille wanted around £60m before the tournament, while later reports placed his value closer to €80m-€100m.

For Arsenal, the issue is no longer simply whether Bouaddi fits Mikel Arteta’s midfield. The harder question is whether the price still fits the wider squad plan.

Bouaddi Has Become A Serious Arsenal Question

Bouaddi’s appeal is clear. He is 18, already plays senior football for Lille and has handled World Cup pressure with unusual calm. The Guardian highlighted his performance in Morocco’s draw with Brazil, when he had 88 touches, won 11 duels and completed 93% of his passes.

Those numbers explain why the market has moved quickly. Arsenal need midfield depth with long-term starter potential. Declan Rice gives Arteta a fixed point, Martin Odegaard remains the creative reference, and Berta’s job is to build the next layer without leaving Arsenal overexposed financially.

Bouaddi fits many of the football requirements. He can receive under pressure, carry the ball and defend space, while his age also gives Arsenal resale protection if his development continues. The danger comes with the fee.

A nine-figure price changes the argument. Arsenal would no longer be buying an elite teenage opportunity before the market catches up. They would be paying after the market has already reacted.

Berta Needs Discipline Around The Price

Berta did not arrive at Arsenal to chase every post-tournament spike. A player can be exceptional and still become the wrong deal if the fee limits movement elsewhere. Arsenal still need balance across the squad, and one expensive midfield signing could narrow the rest of the window.

ReadArsenal has already looked at how a loan-back arrangement could help Arsenal structure a Bouaddi deal. That route now looks more relevant if Lille’s valuation keeps rising, with a delayed arrival, staged payments or performance-related bonuses all possible ways to protect Arsenal from entering a straight cash contest with other elite clubs.

The football case remains strong. Bouaddi looks like the type of midfielder Arteta usually wants early, before the rest of Europe fully commits. His World Cup performances have already changed that timing, so Arsenal now need to decide whether they still see value or whether the race has moved into a bracket that no longer suits the plan.

Arsenal Need A Clear Ceiling

Arsenal cannot let this pursuit drift. If Berta believes Bouaddi is a generational fit, he needs a defined package and a clear ceiling. If Lille reject it, Arsenal should move on without letting the chase shape the rest of the summer.

That would not count as failure. It would simply show discipline. Arteta needs elite young talent, but Arsenal also need flexibility. A £100m-plus midfielder at 18 carries enormous upside, but it also raises the risk level across the window.

Bouaddi’s talent is real. His Brazil performance and wider World Cup run have pushed him beyond normal scouting debate, and Arsenal’s interest makes sense on profile. The decision now sits with Berta: if the structure works, Bouaddi could become a long-term Arsenal midfielder. If Lille’s price keeps climbing, Arsenal may have to accept that the World Cup has moved him beyond the value point they originally saw.
