Arsenal Add Braga Fitness Specialist Antonio Gomez To Support Staff

Arsenal have reportedly added Antonio Gomez from Braga as Mikel Arteta continues reshaping the club’s fitness, medical and rehabilitation structure.

Daily Cannon reports that Gomez has left his role as fitness coach at Braga to join Arsenal as part of the club’s wider performance-department rebuild.

The report, citing Record in Portugal, adds that Gomez will not work as a permanent employee, but will still join the support structure around the first team.

The move follows a period of change behind the scenes at London Colney. ReadArsenal recently covered how Tom Allen’s expected departure as head of sports science and performance added another major change to Arteta’s backroom staff.

Arsenal’s physical programme has come under greater focus after a demanding title-winning season. The Sun reported that Arsenal played 63 matches last season, the highest total of any side in Europe’s top five leagues, with injuries to Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber, Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz all adding strain to the squad.

Gomez’s arrival gives Arsenal another specialist voice at a time when recovery planning and conditioning will matter heavily. A large group of Arteta’s players remain involved at the World Cup, so the club will need careful individual programmes once they return to London Colney.

The wider backroom rebuild also extends beyond the medical and fitness department. ReadArsenal has reported on the club’s search for a new Positional Analyst, a role that points to further refinement of Andrea Berta’s football operation.

Arsenal’s message looks clear enough before their title defence. Arteta’s squad still needs transfer work, but the club are also tightening the infrastructure around performance, recovery and analysis.
