After winning the Premier League title, Arsenal are looking to fine-tune their squad this summer to continue being a force to be reckoned with.
Speculation surrounding potential incomings have dominated the back pages, but The Athletic have confirmed that Mikel Arteta is willing to offload six first-team players if suitable offers arrive.
The Gunners have a stacked squad but don’t really need to sell to buy as their finances are in a fantastic position after winning the Premier League title and reaching the UEFA Champions League final.
However, a handful of players are likely to be moved on as they need a bit of a refresh to go again.
Arsenal open to offers for Gabriel Martinelli and 5 others
If you have a look across the board, Arteta has two specialist players per position and has done incredibly well to keep most of his players happy.
However, a few of them have fallen down the pecking order as there has been a reluctance to actively rotate the squad while also fighting for the biggest honours.
According to the aforementioned report, the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Christian Norgaard and Fabio Vieira are available for the right price this summer.
While Jesus only featured regularly towards the back end of the season, Vieira was on loan at FC Porto. As for Norgaard, he was exclusively used in cup games and to see off Premier League clashes in the closing stages.
The report also adds that the Gunners could be tempted to offload Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli, if suitable offers arrive.
A tricky summer for the Gunners
After consistently competing for the biggest honours, Arteta and co finally got over the finish line last season in the Premier League.
Due to their recent success, they are likely to shop at the top end of the spectrum, which is how it should be.
Some hard calls will have to be made this summer to ensure the squad continues to develop, and that could come at the cost of offloading the likes of Norgaard, Vieira and Jesus.
As for Nwaneri, his loan spell at Marseille wasn’t really a success. At Arsenal, he is behind Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke on the right flank, while the attacking midfield duties are shared between Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze.
Max Dowman’s emergence is another factor for Nwaneri, so it’s hard to see him playing regularly next season.
Martinelli has scored some important goals for the club and is loved by the fans, but he might have to pay the price if the Gunners make a move for a premium attacker like Bradley Barcola or Morgan Rogers.
Arteta has a problem of plenty in his squad currently and will look to take his time before making a decision on some of his fringe players.
