Arsenal are reportedly ready to accelerate their pursuit of Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, with England team-mates helping sell the move during the World Cup.
The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Mikel Arteta’s priority attacking targets as the Premier League champions look to add more power and flexibility to their front line this summer, according to a fresh report from The Sun.
Declan Rice is said to be leading the dressing-room charm offensive, with Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze also part of the England group spending time around Rogers in the United States.
Rogers would answer Arsenal’s need for flexible attacking cover
Rogers scored 14 goals and supplied 12 assists in all competitions for Villa last season, helping Unai Emery’s side finish fourth in the Premier League and win the Europa League.
His appeal to Arsenal is obvious. Rogers can play from the left, as a No 10 or across the front line, which matters while Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus all face some level of summer uncertainty.
Villa remain in a strong negotiating position because Rogers signed a long-term contract until 2031, but the report claims clubs monitoring the situation believe talks could begin around the £85m mark.
For Arsenal, the timing is also useful. The World Cup camp gives Rice, Saka and Eze a natural chance to make the Emirates pitch before any formal club-to-club move develops.
