Arsenal News Today: Yildiz enquiry, Jesus price, Saliba verdict

At a Glance:

  • Arsenal have enquired about Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz.
  • The Gunners have set an asking price for Gabriel Jesus.
  • William Saliba played 45 minutes for France on Monday night.

Arsenal’s summer transfer activity could kick into gear in the coming weeks, despite the World Cup’s imminent start.

The tournament kicks off on Thursday, and while this usually delays transfer proceedings, Andrea Berta is eager to push forward and be proactive in the window. A left winger, a central midfielder, a right-back, and potentially a striker are on the agenda.

Several names have already been linked with a switch to the Emirates, including the likes of Bradley Barcola, Morgan Rogers and Sandro Tonali. With that said, here is the latest Arsenal news today, including updates on Kenan Yildiz, Gabriel Jesus and William Saliba.

Arsenal enquire about Kenan Yildiz

Arsenal are looking to upgrade the left-hand side of their attack, and are exploring a number of potential options on the market. It’s emerged that Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz is a candidate, and that the Gunners have enquired about the Turkish attacker’s availability.

According to the Athletic, Arsenal approached the Old Lady about Yildiz, but were swiftly told that the player is not for sale. While it’s likely an offer of a certain value could tempt the Serie A giants to cash in, it doesn’t appear as though the player ranks highly on Berta and Mikel Arteta’s list.

Thus, the most likely outcome is that the North Londoners turn their attention elsewhere.

Andrea Berta sets Gabriel Jesus price

Arsenal are gearing up to sell Gabriel Jesus this summer. The Brazilian played under 1,000 minutes across all competitions last season, and is subsequently deemed surplus to requirements, with both Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite his contract expiring next summer and his excessive wage package, Arsenal are looking for upwards of £20 million for Jesus. Berta isn’t willing to sanction the striker’s departure for an insufficient fee.

Clubs from Italy and Brazil are said to be interested in Jesus, and this may ultimately prevent the Gunners from garnering the fee they want.

William Saliba impresses for France

After concerns regarding an ongoing back injury, William Saliba played 45 minutes for France on Monday night as Didier Deschamps’ team beat Northern Ireland 3-1 in Lille. A hat-trick from Michael Olise did the job for the World Cup favourites.

The Arsenal star shone for Les Blue, and this subsequently sparked praise from French media. MaxiFoot claimed Saliba looked as fit as a fiddle against Northern Ireland, writing: “Having suffered from back pain in recent weeks, the Arsenal centre-back doesn’t seem to be struggling. The Northern Irish side rarely tested him, but his neutralisation of Donley and his excellent recovery tackle on Kelly prove that the Gunner is ready.”

Meanwhilem FootMercato wrote: “Positioned on the left side of the defence, he reassured everyone about his fitness, a question mark at the start of the French national team’s training camp.

“Alert, he was able to capitalise on the few dangerous situations in his area.”
