  • Arsenal have confirmed that Jakub Kiwior has left for Porto permanently.
  • The initial loan deal has been made permanent for around £19 million.
  • Kiwior could be the first of many to depart the North London club this summer.

Arsenal have confirmed that Jakub Kiwior’s move to Porto has been made permanent, ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta.

After impressing in last season’s run-in, Kiwior opted to swap a squad role in North London with a starting role in northern Portugal last summer. The Pole joined Porto on an initial loan deal, with an option to buy, although certain clauses are understood to have made this option an obligation.

Porto won the Primeira Liga last weekend, and this seemingly pushed Kiwior’s permanent move through. He’ll join the Portuguese giants in a deal worth around €22 million (£19 million) in total.

Arsenal confirmed that this deal had been made official on their website.

“Jakub Kiwior’s move to Porto has now become permanent following the Dragaos’ Liga Portugal title triumph last weekend,” the club’s site wrote.

“The Polish defender was an unused substitute in this weekend’s 3-1 deefat at AFS, in which the team was rotated.”

Kiwior has been an important figure behind Porto’s success this season, making 38 appearances across all competitions this term. That said, he has found himself on the bench more regularly of late, with manager Francesco Farioli favouring Jan Bednarek and Thiago Silva in recent times.

Kiwior’s departure is expected to kick-off what is likely to be a busy summer in N5, both on the incoming front and the outgoing front.

Who might follow Jakub Kiwior out the door this summer?

While fans will no doubt be clamouring for new signings this summer, there’ll likely be more outgoing activity than incoming. Berta built a large squad last summer, and that squad now needs to be trimmed somewhat.

Kiwior may not be the most marquee departure given he’s already spent a year away from North London, but there could indeed be a handful of big-name players who make their way out.

Ben White suffered what appeared to be a serious injury against West Ham on Sunday afternoon, which may ultimately hinder Arsenal’s ability to move him on this summer. However, if the England international regains his fitness relatively quickly, he’s likely to be one of the first names on Berta’s sale list.

Elsewhere, Christian Norgaard could be sold after just one year at the club. Myles Lewis-Skelly has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, while the potential sale of Ethan Nwaneri has been mooted.

At least one of Leandro Trossard or Gabriel Martinelli is expected to make way for a new left winger, while Gabriel Jesus is almost certainly going to leave Arsenal in the next few months.
