Arsenal face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, looking to win their first piece of silverware since Mikel Arteta’s side won the FA Cup in 2020.
The Gunners eased past Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, securing their progression into the last eight of the Champions League, courtesy of a screamer from Eberechi Eze and a cultured finish from Declan Rice. A quarter-final tie against Sporting CP awaits the North Londoners, with a potential semi-final against either Atletico Madrid or Barcelona on the table if they’re able to overcome the Portuguese giants.
As for City, Pep Guardiola’s team are in poor form, having won just one of their last five matches across all competitions. Nine points behind Arsenal in the Premier League and out of the Champions League, the Citizens will no doubt be fired up and eager to emerge victorious from this weekend’s showdown at Wembley, to salvage a winners medal from their disappointing campaign.
Arteta could be without Jurrien Timber for this encounter, with the Spaniard producing a coy response when asked about the Dutchman’s potential availability. Elsewhere, Martin Odegaard is also a doubt as he continues to try to fight his way back from injury, while Mikel Merino is likely out for the season.
Guardiola won’t be able to call upon Marc Guehi or Josko Gvardiol for this game, with the former cup-tied and the latter injured. Other than these two absences, the ex-Barcelona manager has a fully fit squad to select from.
