Arsenal visit Mansfield Town on Saturday afternoon in the FA Cup, looking to progress into the quarter-final of England’s oldest competition, as Mikel Arteta continues his pursuit of an unprecedented quadruple.
The Gunners managed to narrowly beat Brighton & Hove Albion in a nervy affair on the south coast on Wednesday, increasing their lead at the top of the Premier League after Manchester City failed to beat Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Mansfield will be heading into this cup tie looking for a distraction from their dire league form, which has seen them fail to win in each of their last nine games.
The Stags are now only five points above the League One relegation zone, and while their focus for the rest of the season will be avoiding dropping into the fourth tier, they will certainly be fired up at the prospect of a potentially huge upset at Field Mill on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta will be without Myles Lewis-Skelly for this encounter, as the youngster is suspended after picking up yellow cards in each of the previous two rounds. Aside from the left-back and long-term absentee Mikel Merino, Arsenal could have a fully fit squad to select from, although Ben White, William Saliba and Martin Odegaard will all face late fitness tests to determine their availability.
While Mansfield will be encouraged about their prospects of causing an upset after beating Burnley in the last round, Arsenal should have far too much for them in Nottinghamshire.
