Journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update regarding Shakhtar Donetsk winger and reported Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk.
What’s the news?
In a recent column for Caught Offside, Romano discussed the player and a potential move away from the Ukrainian club in the future.
The Italian stated: “I continue to enjoy watching the development of Mykhaylo Mudryk – his performances in the Champions League this season have been amazing!
“He’s a player whose value has most likely shot up since the summer. Shakhtar Donetsk wanted around €50m for him in August, probably €40m plus add-ons were enough. Today, I’m sure they want way more than €50m for their star, it could probably be as high as €60-65m.”
With that in mind, it could cost the Gunners £56m to sign the winger, when the currency conversion is taken into account.
Mudryk impressing in Champions League
Having made 35 senior appearances for Shakhtar across all competitions, the 21-year-old has scored five goals and delivered 16 assists. In four Champions League appearances this season, Mudryk has scored two goals and supplied two assists for his team-mates, earning himself an impressive performance rating of 7.05/10 from WhoScored.
Hailed by journalist Maunel Alejandro Ramirez as a player with “a lot of personality”, the 21-year-old has shown how capable he is of playing to a high level on the biggest stage in club football.
Back in September, the player revealed that he would find it hard to turn down a move to Arsenal should they make an approach for him in the upcoming January transfer window.
Bearing in mind how Gabriel Martinelli is the only predominant left winger in Mikel Arteta’s ranks at the moment, securing a deal for the Ukrainian in January could give the Gunners boss the final piece of his jigsaw for the squad at the Emirates Stadium.
Looking ahead to the winter transfer window, it may take a hefty transfer fee to sign him judging by Romano’s recent assertion, but we feel that this is definitely an investment worth making.
