Arsenal are in advanced talks to agree a new contract with Gabriel Martinelli.
That’s according to a recent report from Football Insider, who claim that the north London club are working on tying the Brazilian to an extended and improved deal at the Emirates.
The report also adds that “talks are progressing well over a contract that would run until the summer of 2026 with an option for a further year.”
Arsenal signed the player back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Brazil club Ituano in a deal worth a reported fee of £6m.
Since then, the 21-year-old has gone on to make 95 senior appearances for the Gunners across all competitions.
In those appearances, Martinelli has scored 22 goals and delivered 15 assists along the way.
His latest goal contributions came during Arsenal’s recent 3-2 win over Liverpool where he scored and supplied an assist.
Described as a “frightening” player by Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, Martinelli has been one of Mikel Arteta’s top players this season having scored four goals and delivered two assists in nine league games.
In fact, as well as having the second-highest number of shots at goal in the league at Arsenal (26), the winger has made more key passes (20) and more passes into the 18-yard box (21) than any other player at the club this season.
His overall performances have earned the attacker an impressive season rating of 7.49/10 from WhoScored, making him the second-highest-rated player in Arteta’s squad.
This rating only leaves nine other players in the entire division with a higher rating than the £90k-per-week Arsenal star.
Taking all of this into account, it’s safe to say that if the club and Edu are successful in tying down Martinelli to a new and improved contract, this would be a massive positive for everyone connected to Arsenal and surely have the manager thrilled.
