Arsenal have been linked with a move for Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford.

What’s the news?

That’s according to a recent report from Football Insider, who claim that the Gunners are keeping tabs on the player and his contract situation at the Manchester club.

The report also adds that the 24-year-old’s ‘Old Trafford future is up in the air with his contract due to expire next summer’.

Rashford’s season so far

In 310 appearances for the Red Devils prior to Thursday evening’s Europa League clash against Omonia Nicosia, the Englishman has scored 96 goals and delivered 60 assists along the way.

Across seven league appearances under his belt in the current campaign, Rashford has netted three times (twice against Arsenal) and supplied two assists, leaving him with a higher rate of expected goals (2.1) than any other United player. He has also had more shots at goal (15) than any other player at the club, further highlighting his attacking prowess.

Having earned himself a league performance rating of 7/10 from WhoScored, this makes him the highest-rated United player to have started more than two games this season.

Arteta would love him

Hailed previously by Manchester Evening News journalist Rich Fay as a “joy to watch“, Rashford’s versatility in being able to play through the middle and out wide could make him a valuable asset who Mikel Arteta would undoubtedly love to have in his squad, in addition to the 24-year-old’s clear attacking talent.

With the majority of his club appearances coming on the left wing, this could make Rashford a smart signing for Arsenal, as Gabriel Martinelli is the only player in their squad who predominantly lines out in that position.

If an opportunity to prise the England international away from his boyhood club becomes a reality at some point in the near future, the Gunners should definitely put themselves in a position to try and sign the attacker and add him to Arteta’s squad.
