Arsenal have shown over recent years that they are not shy when it comes to signing players from fellow Premier League clubs.
One figure that the Gunners have been linked with in the past from a top-flight side is Leicester City’s James Maddison.
Should the north London club decide to launch another move to sign the Englishman in the near future, they could well end up with their next version of Martin Odegaard.
To compare Maddison’s previous Premier League campaign with the current Arsenal star’s, this highlights how similar the duo are.
For example, with Maddison scoring 12 goals and supplying eight assists compared to Odegaard’s seven goals and four assists, both players made 13 carries into the 18-yard box each, showing how active they are in attacking areas.
Both players also successfully completed over 50% of the dribbles they attempted, with the Englishman’s 59% eclipsing the Norwegian’s 52.4%, further highlighting how tricky they can be to play against.
With both midfielders racking up an almost identical combined total of tackles and interceptions (47 vs 44), this shows how useful they can be without the ball as well.
Even though the Midlands club have had a tough start to their season, Maddison has shown how critical he is to them by having more shots at goal (23), key passes (15), successful dribbles (8) and shot-creating actions (28) than any other player at the King Power Stadium.
Lauded by Brendan Rodgers for his “sensational” performances for his side in the past, the £110k-per-week star showed his worth on Monday evening as he scored two goals and provided an assist in Leicester’s 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
This all suggests how much of an impressive signing it would be from Arsenal to bring the 25-year-old to the Emirates.
It also shows that he certainly has what it takes to potentially take Odegaard’s place in Mikel Arteta’s side, or even force the Arsenal manager to change his side to accommodate both players.
