Arsenal urged to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk

Former Arsenal player, Kevin Campbell, has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of seeing the north London club make a transfer move to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell had this to say when asked whether the reported Arsenal target would be a good addition to Mikel Arteta’s ranks.

He said: “Look, Mudryk is a player everyone is looking at. He is performing in the Champions League against top teams. He is young and could develop with this Arsenal side. I think he would be devastating in that system.

“No disrespect to [Gabriel] Martinelli because he has been fantastic this season. He looks the part now. But every top team has two players for every position.

“[Emile] Smith Rowe is really a midfielder. I think he is a number eight who plays out wide sometimes. If you have two specialist wingers Smith Rowe has to concentrate on one position which is not a bad thing. That is what we want, two players for every spot.”

Back in August, it was reported that the Gunners were interested in signing the winger, who Shakhtar were asking for £30m to sell.

Since the start of this current season, and as Campbell mentioned, the Ukrainian has scored two goals and provided six assists in six appearances across all competitions.

His latest league outing saw the attacker rack up a hat-trick of assists, showing how much of an attacking threat he can be in terms of setting up goalscoring opportunities.

Bearing in mind how Arteta only has Gabriel Martinelli as his predominant left-winger, adding a figure like Mudryk to the squad could be just what the Spaniard needs to make sure he has enough strength and depth in that area.

Moving forward, if the door opens to potentially make a move to sign the 21-year-old in the upcoming January transfer window, Arsenal should put themselves firmly in a position to bring him to the Emirates.
