Edu could’ve landed his best Arsenal deal yet with Leroy Sane swoop

Arsenal‘s technical director Edu was rather busy behind the scenes during the summer transfer window in terms of the number of deals in which he was involved.

In addition to seeing the north London club bring in the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, the Gunners also cashed in on players such as Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira.

However, one player with whom Arsenal were linked and who could’ve been Edu’s best deal yet is Bayern Munich and former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, where he had Mikel Arteta as a part of the coaching team, Sane made 135 appearances across all competitions, scoring 39 goals and delivering 46 assists along the way.

Since joining Bayern, the 26-year-old has scored 29 goals and supplied 30 assists in 99 appearances, the latest of which saw the German score against Barcelona in the Champions League this week.

Last season saw the winger (32) come second to Robert Lewandowski (77) at Bayern for the number of shots on target in the Bundesliga, and second to Alphonso Davies (120) for the number of dribbles that he attempted (104).

This showcases the clear attacking talent that the former Man City star has and why he would have been a star signing for Arsenal over the summer, and arguably Edu’s best yet in his current role.

Lauded as an “unbelievable” player by Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann, Sane reportedly had a price tag of around £60m placed on him over the summer, which we feel is something that Edu should have moved mountains to try and meet.

Bearing in mind how Arsenal currently only have Gabriel Martinelli in their squad as a predominant left-winger, adding the Bayern star to their ranks could have been the best way to add some extra strength and depth to that area of Arteta’s squad.

If an opportunity to bring the Germany attacker back to England arises in the near future, Arsenal and Edu should definitely launch a big-money move to sign him.
