Arsenal have not been shy when it has come to splashing the cash over recent years to bring new players to the Emirates.
One player, in particular, that the Gunners made a significant investment in that we feel has been a great piece of business from the club is Ben White.
Back in the 2021 summer transfer window, Arsenal shelled out £50m to sign the defender from fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.
It didn’t take long for the Englishman to become a key part of Mikel Arteta’s team as he ended up making 32 league appearances in total.
Across those appearances, White ended his debut campaign at Arsenal with more blocks (54) and interceptions (66) than any other player at the club, as well as having the second-highest number of clearances (114).
His overall performances earned the 24-year-old a season rating of 6.78/10 from WhoScored, making him the sixth-highest rated Arsenal player and their highest-rated centre-back.
Things have been much the same for the defender this season as well, as White is one of the eight outfield players to start all six league games.
Similarly to last season, White currently has more successful tackles (9), blocks (15) and pressures in the defensive third of the pitch (20) than any of his teammates.
Labelled as a “warrior” by football talent scout, Jacek Kulig, White has certainly shown why the club and Edu were right to spend the money they did to sign him, as his defensive attributes have shown just how important he has become for the team and Arteta.
Taking all of this into account, it’s safe to say that the Gunners have struck gold by signing the former Brighton youngster, who certainly has the space to become a long-term figure for the club for many years to come.
