Arsenal’s technical director, Edu, had a particularly busy summer transfer period in terms of the number of deals that took place at the north London club during the recent window.
In addition to bringing in players such as Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, the Gunners also managed to cash in on figures such as Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
Now that the summer window has been and gone, there is still one deal that could take place at Arsenal that could arguably top anything that Edu was involved in over the past three months.
Back in July, it was reported that the Gunners had offered Bukayo Saka a new contract worth £150k-per-week to tie his future down to the north London club and out of the clutches of Manchester City.
His current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2024, however, we feel that getting the winger to put pen to paper on a new contract should be at the top of Edu’s priority list right now.
Having made 189 appearances for the club across their senior and youth sides, the Englishman, who has been described as “phenomenal” in the past by Paul Merson, has scored 46 goals and delivered 48 assists along the way.
Being the only Arsenal player to appear in all of their 38 league games last season, Saka ended the campaign with more goals (11) and the joint-highest number of assists (7) at the club.
Having also started all six of their league games this season, this further highlights just how important the 21-year-old is to the club and to Mikel Arteta.
As a product of the club’s academy that has become a crucial first-team figure for them, the Gunners should do all they can to get the attacker to pledge his future to the club that gave him the platform to become the top player he is, especially if it means scaring off any other sides that may be interested in signing him.
