Former Arsenal defender Tony Adams has offered insights into the Gunners’ experiences under Mikel Arteta and his managerial style, revealing comments made by Arsenal under-23s coach Steve Bould.
Arsenal claimed their first away victory against a top six side since 2015 with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the weekend. Academy graduate Hector Bellerin’s ability to win a penalty after Pogba’s powerful tackle in the box proved instrumental and is a taste of the power of attacking full backs under Arteta. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then coolly struck home from the spot for the game’s decisive moment.
Bould spoke in a complimentary manner towards Arteta, even going so far as to dub him ‘the governor’.
Meanwhile, Adams joined the choir of voices praising Arteta for his ability to boost morale at the Emirates and implement a more defensively-orientated approach to games.
‘He [Arteta] has got fantastic ability to work with this team,’ Adams told Stadium Astro [via Metro] after the match at Old Trafford.
‘He puts hours into the training pitch. He’s his own man, if [Mesut] Ozil’s not in his thinking, he’s out, it’s as simple as that.
‘I can’t speak highly enough of the guy. The words coming out [of the club], when I talk to my mate Steve Bould who’s still in the club taking the Under-23s at the moment. He said to me, “This guy has got it all, he’s the governor”.’
