There was plenty to celebrate as Arsenal picked up their first away win against a traditional top six side since 2015 with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United – and many Gunners fans were evidently delighted with the outcome
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbed the headlines for his role in the victory. The Gabon international, who won the game with his penalty, coolly referred to his manager by his first name in a post-match interview, as opposed to his surname or a more conventional term such as ‘boss’, ‘manager’ or ‘gaffer’.
This caused pundit Roy Keane to criticise the Arsenal striker as he spoke on Sky Sports Premier League (1/11/2020, 19:24, via Metro):
“They didn’t show him respect when they called him by his name Mikel. He is the manager, the boss, the gaffer. That’s respect. Not Mikel.”
Aubameyang’s penalty in the 69th minute made all the difference in a game of fine margins, with Paul Pogba’s trip on marauding right-back Hector Bellerin in the box proving catastrophic for United – much to the benefit of Arteta’s men.
Not only did it earn the Gunners a vital three points, but it also ended their unwanted record in away games against traditional top six sides – a record that Arsenal fans will be more than keen to forget and consign to history.
The win was also their first victory at Old Trafford for 14 years, since Emmanuel Adebayor scored the winner in a 1-0 triumph all the way back in September 2006.
The victory moves Arsenal up to ninth in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Liverpool, breaking a losing streak in the process.
Arsenal fans wasted no time in voicing their reactions to the game, with one embracing the “good feeling” after the landmark result…
