Arsenal among a host of clubs chasing Alex Luna

The Mirror have reported that Arsenal have joined a host of European giants in the pursuit of Argentinian wonder kid Alex Luna.

The 16-year-old, who currently plays for Atletico Rafaela in his native Argentina, has been scouted by both Manchester-based Premier League clubs, as well as AC Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, AS Roma, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Mikel Arteta has certainly been keen on building a squad for the future as well as the present since taking over at the Emirates Stadium and this interest in Luna is another nod towards that aim.

Luna has been compared to Brazilian forward Neymar and during an interview with Spanish publication AS spoke about the comparisons:

I like dribbling – dribbling, like Neymar. I try to imitate him a lot for his style and for all the things he does. He is one of the best in the world with Messi.

Prior to the premature suspension of football in South America, Luna had netted 16 goals with Rafaela’s youth team during the 2019/20 season.

Whilst no formal approach has been made, these are the kinds of deals the Gunners should be looking to make happen.

Not dissimilar to the deal that saw the unfortunately injured Gabriel Martinelli arrive in London, early scouting and early completion of deals before too many other clubs become involved will be key for the Gunners going forwards.

Arsenal have a fine tradition of bringing through youngsters and if they can get Luna to the club at a young age and get him settled to life in England, they could have a future first-team star on their hands.

matchday.
